Janet Petty
Chief Financial Officer / Revenue Cycle Director, St. Vincent General Hospital District

Janet Petty is currently a master’s candidate in healthcare administration at Columbia Southern University, although she began her career in healthcare and hospital revenue cycle work more than three decades ago. Janet joined St. Vincent Hospital in 2018 and put her considerable experience and leadership to work at a time of great change and growth for the organization. In a few short years she has created and mentored a team who have established internal processes that consistently meet efficiency goals, improve financial outcomes and enhance the patient experience. Janet explains that her affinity to healthcare came about organically. “My mom worked in admissions and the business office and my uncle was a hospital administrator. That led me to be a candy striper in high school,” says Janet. “I was fascinated with the nursing profession and how a nurse was the basecamp for all the things happening to a patient at any given time.” As it happened, nursing didn’t end up being a step of her career path, but her big-picture thinking led her to the financial and operational aspects of healthcare. As CFO, Janet helps patients in an entirely different but equally important way. “A patient and their family are usually scared of the unknown and overwhelmed in dealing with their physical, financial and emotional health,” says Janet. “Often their actions are not personal; they are a reaction to fear. Knowing this, I always try to be the light in someone’s day.” Janet loves the small-town energy in Leadville and the opportunity to connect on the civic level. In her off time, you might find Janet upcycling her thrift store finds into crafts and artwork in the company of her dogs and cats. She and her husband are empty nesters who are always ready to share pictures and tales of the antics of their five small grandchildren.

Konnie Martin
Chief Executive Officer, San Luis Valley Health

As a rural health care leader, Konnie Martin holds an important belief, “the possibilities for making a difference are endless.” In her current role as Chief Executive Officer for San Luis Valley Health (SLVH) since June 2013, Konnie has been responsible for the overall vision and operation of the organization, which includes two hospitals, both with 24/7 emergency departments—one with Level III Trauma designation, a physician service practice that provides integrated primary and behavioral health care at five clinics, and specialty services including orthopedics, oncology, cardiology, neurology, ENT, general surgery, physiatry, and podiatry. Through her years in executive health care leadership in not-for-profit health care systems, Konnie has helped to ensure that residents in this rural, low-income southern region of Colorado have access to mission-based services across the continuum.

Konnie is an active participant at the local, state and national level on health care issues and an advocate for rural health care systems. In 2016, she earned the prestigious Grassroots Champion Award, being honored for her work in effectively delivering the hospital message to elected officials, helping to broaden the base of community support for hospitals, and advocating tirelessly on behalf of patients, hospitals and communities. In May of 2018, Konnie served as a witness at the Senate finance committee hearing in Washington, D.C. testifying on “Rural Health Care in America: Challenges and Opportunities” with a plea to provide a level playing field ensuring access to necessary health care services so that children, adults, and families are able to live healthy and productive lives by getting the right care, at the right time, in the right place. From her testimony, Martin’s remarks were encapsulated in media outlets with this comment, “Rural communities pride themselves on hard work and taking care of their own. However, federal payment systems and delivery models must…be updated to meet the realities and challenges of how health care is delivered today and in the future….in a country as great as ours, where you live should not determine if you live.” Respected among statewide peers, Konnie was selected to serve on the Colorado Hospital Association Board as the secretary/treasurer in 2018, and Chair of the CHA Board 2020. Konnie’s rural leadership and expertise will be utilized in her advisory role as a member of the American Hospital Association’s Rural Health Services Council, for three years, 2021-2023.
